World No Tobacco Day
14 May 2012

world no tobacco day 31 May - logoWorld No Tobacco Day is celebrated around the world every year on May 31.

The Member States of the World Health Organisation created "World No Tobacco Day" in 1987 to draw the attention of the world to the dangers of tobacco smoking, which causes disease and early death of smokers and passive smokers.

A passive smoker is someone who doesn't smoke himself but is often near someone who does. Research shows that kids whose parents or other family members and friends smoke are more likely to take up smoking themselves or be affected by the smoke they are breathing in.
